New questions

Ones I, Mom, did not expect quite so soon in my son's life...

SLAVERY

Finn: Hey! What's slavery?

Mom: What?

Finn: What's slavery?

Mom: Well, it's when people think they can own other people, like a thing, and make them work for them.

Finn: Is it bad?

Mom: Very, very bad. One of the worst things.

Finn: Yeah.

RAGE

Finn: Hey! What's rage?

Dad: When someone gets really really mad.

Finn: Yeah.

IS THAT WAR?

Finn: Hey! Is that War?

Dad: No, that's a protest.

Finn: Is that like war?

Mom: Sometimes it is, it can be - honey, can we turn off the news, please?

Finn: Why we turning off the news?

Mom: It's time to read.

Finn: I'm gonna read my Abraham Lincoln book!

Mom: sighs. Okay.

I'm Your Pet

In bed, talking about the animals they got at school - two bugs, and two fish. Arthropods (I think) to come soon.

Mom: And you get to take care of them, right?

Finn: Yes.

Mom: How do you do that?

Finn: Take your chair down QUIETLY, and put your chair up QUIETLY, so they don't get scared!

Mom: And did you do that today?

Finn: Yes.

Pause.

Finn: Hey Mom!

Mom: Yes?

Finn: I'm your pet, 'cause you always take care of me.

and my heart melts, once again.

I'm Gonna Be.... the GRINCH!

For his bedtime story tonight, Finn chose to read one of the actor bios from his Lyle the Crocodile program.

As we were laying in bed after, I asked him if he'd like to take a class at Seattle Children's Theatre. This is the conversation...

Mom: Would you like to take a class sometime at the Children's Theatre?

Finn: Yes!

Mom: Okay, I'll look in the catalogue and see what class you can take.

Finn: What's a catalogue?

Mom: Oh, like a list of classes they have.

Finn: I know what class I'll take!

Mom: What?

Finn: holding his finger to his mouth, his thinking pose - let me see... I know... a Christmas one!

Mom: A Christmas one?

Finn: Yes! And it's called... How the Grinch Stole Christmas!

Mom: Really?

Finn: Yes! And I'll be the Grinch! And everyone else in the class will be all the little Who people! And someone else in the class will be my dog!

Mom: Well, I'm not sure they have that class. The classes are kind of pretending classes, in rooms there at the Children's Theatre...

Finn: No. I'm gonna be the Grinch. On the BIG stage!

Clearly, he is My son.

50 ways... Finn's First Grown-up CD

Kenny took Finn out today, so I could rest - and they went (among many places) to Everyday Music.

Finn got to wear headphones and listen to CD's, and Kenny got him his first grown up music CD.

Paul Simon's Greatest Hits. He just put it on for Finn, who is listening in a trance. A snapshot of their conversation:

Finn: What's a lover?

Dad: A really really good friend.

Finn: Is is sad to leave your lover?

 Dad: Yes. Yes it is.
